I am someone who loves calendars, planners, post-it notes, and all those types of things. In college, I was probably the most ruthless time manager you have ever met. I knew exactly when I was going to practice music, when I was going to study, who I would eat with, what I would wear to student teaching, lesson plans weeks in advance, wedding plans/lists made way ahead of time, etc. I was never a fan of "wasting time" or sitting idly by and letting the world pass me by. I had every hour of almost every day planned and I took great joy in writing in my planner exactly what I needed to do and when I was going to accomplish these things. I took even greater happiness in crossing these items off when they were accomplished. I loved it! One day, Autumn laughed at me while noticing that I was writing something I already did that day in my planner simply so I could cross it out. Funny? Yes. Problematic? I hope not. In fact, this may sound nerdy but the thought of finding my planner today and doing that exact thing makes me happy.
This summer, however, I got out of my planner/cross it off routine after we moved (not because I really wanted to but because I lost my planner). This has been somewhat good for me I think. I couldn't find my dry erase calendar that I keep in the kitchen and meticulously write on. So I had to rely on my own memory of what is going on week by week in our lives. I also had to learn that sometimes, not having a plan can be a great thing (unless that means shopping in my spare time...working on that one). I am taking more walks, cleaning more often, and trying my hand at landscaping our yard. My friend Michelle has given me a bunch of new recipes that I am eager to try out on Kyle. But, I must confess that at Target the other day, I bought a new dry erase calendar and wrote on it today. Only 19 more days until school stuff starts...and planning begins!
